China's most famous border may not be what you think. Just across the river from Hong Kong, the financial megacenter of Asia, lies Shenzhen. Shenzhen is a completely artificial city -- well, you could argue all cities are, but Shenzhen is a truly special case. It was thought up and planned to be the mainland's response to Hong Kong, and thus the 2 cities' histories are deeply intertwined. But the strange thing is that despite being in the same country, there's a border wall and checkpoint between the two.
