The "Indonesia" Hidden In Suriname ()

Suriname, a country like no other. In the 1800's, the Dutch were looking for labor to replace the slaves they brought from Africa. This led to a contract program that brought over thousands of Indonesians from the island of Java. These "Javanese-Surinamese" would go on to have a big impact on the country's culture and food. Being that their arrival in South America was such a unique situation, I wanted to learn a bit more about their history. I decided to best way to do this was by visiting a fun food market, and then an abandoned plantation where a bloody uprising had occurred.
