The History of Little Manila

This is the second episode in a four-part series exploring the migration and settlement of Filipino workers in south Stockton, California, beginning in the 1910s. What started as a destination for migrant laborers quickly grew into a thriving Filipino American community, home to the largest population of Filipinos outside the Philippines by the 1930s. Residents proudly named it Little Manila.   Learn more about Stockton’s Little Manila community in the exhibition “How Can You Forget Me: Filipino American Stories”: https://apa.si.edu/exhibitions/filipino-american-stories/   This video was made possible through the generous support of the Panda CommUnity Fund. It also received federal funding from the Asian Pacific American Initiatives Pool, administered by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center.
